Chinese New Year is celebrated by Chinese in all over the world. It is also known as Lunar
New Year and Spring Festival. Chinese New Year is falling on the first day of each year base on Lunar
calendar. In Chinese custom, celebration of Chinese New Year is lasted for 15 days.
All the people will try to go home before the Chinese New Year's Eve for the Reunion Dinner.
It is the time all the family members gather together. Reunion Dinner tells the importance of family ties in
Chinese society.
During Chinese New Year, Chinese take this opportunity to visit friends and relatives.
Elderly will distribute Ang Pau (Red Packet) to children for blessing and good luck. Children are thrilled
with the red packet in pocket, delicious food and drinks in hands during the visiting.
The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, or more known to be “Chap Goh Mei”,
is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade. This day is also
believed to be the Chinese Valentine's Day. Young men and ladies can meet their lover on this day.
