Introduction to Sibu Municipal Council Public Library

 

 

Sibu Municipal Council Public Library originated from a Methodist Missionary Library in early 1950s. It was taken over by Sibu Urban District Council (SUDC) in 1955. From 1962 to 1985 it was located at the former SUDC (now SMC) town hall at Jalan Wong Nai Siong. In 1986, the library was moved to its present building.

Sibu Municipal Public Library has three floors.

Ground Floor consists of:

  • Circulation Counter (Membership Registration and Renewal, Books Lending and Returning)
  • Children Reading Section
  • Children Activity Room
  • On-line Public Access Catalog (OPAC) Facility
  • Internet Facility
  • Photocopy Facility
  • New Books Exhibition Corner
  • Back Issues of Magazines and Newspapers Room
  • Office

First Floor consists of:

  • Adult Reference Section
  • Adult Reading Section
  • Local Collection Corner
  • Current Magazines and Newspaper Corner
  • Mobile Library Office

Second Floor

  • A Conference Hall which can accommodate 300 people

Library Management System
SMC Public Library started using the ANGKASA Online Library Management System in December 2004.
