Example: Descriptive Cataloging for Electronic Data


  1. Step 1: The physical format of the item is CD-ROM. It is of type electronic data.


  2. Step 2: The chief source of information for CD is the CD-ROM itself.


  3. Step 3: Below is the prescribed sources of information for each area of the description.

  1. Example of CD description catalogue:




  2. In this example, we would like to highlight on the physical description. If there is sound in this CD-ROM, the statement for the physical description would be:

    1 CD-ROM: sd., col.; 4 ¾ in + installation procedures.


  3. Electronic resources often have guides included. This guide could be added in the physical description after '+'. Besides from installation procedures, sometimes users guide could be found in the box. The description of the user guide would be written in a bracket '( )'. Example:

    1 CD-ROM: sd., col.; 4 ¾ in + 1 users guide (20p.: ill.; 12 cm.)
