Example: Descriptive Cataloging for Book


  1. Step 1: The physical format of the item is BOOK.


  2. Step 2: The chief source of information for book is the title page.


  3. Step 3: Below is the prescribed sources of information for each area of the description.

    Edition Title page, other Preliminaries, colophon

  2. In this example, the main entry is actually the Author of the source.

    English name surname, name of the author Ali Bahrami -> Bahrami, Ali
    Malay name Direct Mohd. Ali Hassan -> Mohd Ali Hassan
    Chinese name Family name, name of the author Liu Yong Yang -> Liu, Yong Yang


  3. Edition area is supposed to be placed right after the height of the book. For example, if the book is fifth edition, then the third statement would be:

    XVII,389p. : ill. ; 24cm. ; fifth edition (Computer Science Series)
