The first Union Catalogue Meeting was held successfully on 14th October 2004.
Ten libraries, from as far as Bintulu and Mukah, sent representatives to the
full-day meeting.A total of 30 librarians and IT personnel participated actively
in the discussions. It was a good day to meet the catalogers, whom most of us only
know by name; to discuss issues faced; and to come out with solutions that benefit

The early morning started with opening remarks by Pn. Rashidah Hj. Bolhassan,
the chairperson of the meeting. It was followed by a briefing on Union Catalogue
background and terms of reference. Summary of the briefing is shown in the box below.

UC Committee Structure |
- The Working committee will come up with policies, plans and standards.
Representatives from all Libraries will become members of this committee. This
committee will meet every quarter.
- The Steering committee will set the direction for UC Committee. It will meet twice
a year for progress reporting as well as decision-making.

The afternoon session was spent discussing issues faced by the catalogers.
The sharing session was an eye-opener and very informative. As a result, the
working committee now has a list of items to complete before the next meeting in
January 2005.
